“American Horror Story” fans are in for a Halloween treat. Season 4 of the FX mini-series will be celebrating the spooky holiday in not one episode, but two.

The chilling “Freak Show” fun begins Wednesday with episode 3, “Edward Mordrake, Pt. 1.” As we previously reported, the episode will tell the tale of an “old carny superstition.” The story goes that anyone who dares to perform on Halloween night will summon the spirit of Edward Mordrake (Wes Bentley). But who is this terrifying person?

Legend has it that Edward Mordrake was a man born with diprosopus in the 19th century. Diprosopus is a rare congenital disorder in which parts of the face or the whole face are duplicated on the head. The legend goes that Mordrake wanted his second face or “demon face” removed because it would “whisper to him at night.” When doctors refused to attempt the operation, Mordrake allegedly committed suicide.

Episode 3 of “American Horror Story: Freak Show” will find Bette and Dot (Sarah Paulson) doubting the legitimacy of the story, believing Mordake to be just a myth. But Ethel (Kathy Bates), the bearded lady, will warn them that the stories they have heard are true.

“Edward Mordrake, Pt. 1” will air on FX on Wednesday, Oct. 22, at 10 p.m. EDT. Fans of “American Horror Story” can get an early look at the drama ahead through 13 photos from the Halloween-themed episode. But the fun won’t end there. The tale will continue with “Edward Mordrake, Pt. 2,” which will air on Wednesday, Oct. 29 at 10 p.m. EDT.
