The Americans
Elizabeth (Kerri Russell, left) and Phillip (Matthew Rhys, right) will have a tough choice to make in the Season 3 premiere of "The Americans." FX

“The Americans” returns for its third season on FX next month and fans will once again get to see Elizabeth (Kerri Russell) and Phillip (Matthew Rhys) Jennings try to keep their family and their relationship together while living in the U.S. as Soviet spies. Fans have been eagerly waiting for new episodes since the action-packed Season 2 finale aired in May. Now, the synopsis has been released for the Season 3 premiere, “EST Men,” giving fans their first peek into what’s coming for the show in 2015.

According to Spoiler TV's synopsis, there will be some tension between Phillip and Elizabeth when they disagree about orders from the Centre. Could this be the continuation of a disagreement that was set up in the Season 2 finale?

Viewers will remember in that episode, the couple discovered a Centre program called “second generation illegals” in which the children of spies are trained to follow in their parents footsteps to penetrate even deeper into American intelligence. After they were informed their daughter Paige (Holly Taylor) was being targeted as a candidate, they disagreed over what to do. Phillip protested turning their daughter while Elizabeth warmed to the idea.

In Season 3, episode 1, Elizabeth loses some important intelligence and Phillip will have to clean up the mess. Annelise (Gillian Alexy) will be enlisted for the risky mission. Plus, Stan (Noah Emmerich) will attempt to repair his marriage when he receives some difficult news about Nina (Annet Mahendru).

Will Elizabeth and Phillip bring their daughter into their dangerous espionage game? Will Stan be able to right his marriage? Fans will have to wait to find out. “The Americans” returns with the Season 3 premiere on Jan. 28 at 10 p.m. EST on FX.
