Americans
Elizabeth (Kerri Russell, left) and Phillip (Matthew Rhys, right) will have to make a big decision about Paige (Holly Thompson, not pictured) in Season 3 of "The Americans." FX

“The Americans” returns to FX Jan. 28, with the Season 3 premiere showing Elizabeth (Kerri Russell) and Phillip (Matthew Rhys) fighting for their family and marriage while also spying for the Soviets in 1980s America. Now, a promotional poster for the new episodes artfully shows the unique tensions pulling at the Jennings family.

The poster shows silhouettes of Elizabeth and Phillip’s faces covered in superimposed images of the Soviet Russia and U.S. governments and military, including the U.S. Capitol, the Kremlin, the Hammer and Sickle and the Bald Eagle. In addition, the poster features some All-American imagery representing the regular American family facade the Jennings have to put on in the series, such as housewife carrying a fruit basket and an apple pie. The poster shows the strange dichotomy in the show as the Jennings must deal with their daily family struggles in America while hiding their secret identities as Soviet spies.

That balancing act will be put to the test in Season 3. The synopsis for the premiere reveals the couple must deal with new orders from the Centre urging them to let their daughter Paige (Holly Taylor) be recruited for a new program called “second generation illegals.” In the program, the children of spies are trained to follow in their parents footsteps to penetrate even deeper into American intelligence. Viewers will remember that Phillip was previously against turning their daughter into a spy while Elizabeth wasn't opposed to the idea.

The new poster should have fans psyched as they wait for the Season 3 premiere. Will Elizabeth and Phillip bring Paige into their dangerous way of life? Fans will have to wait to find out. The premiere episode, titled “EST Men,” will air on Wednesday, Jan. 28, at 10 p.m. EST on FX.
