  • Ampadu loaned to Sheffield United to aid in the development
  • Ampadu has better chances of making the first team with Sheffield
  • Ampadu expected to make Chelsea return with improvements

Chelsea has a lot of young players on its end but not all will have the chance to make the first team. One name that comes to mind is Ethan Ampadu, a 19-year-old who recently played in a friendly against Brighton. With low chances of getting exposure with the Blues, the Welsh player has been loaned to Sheffield United where he has bigger chances of getting first-team chances.

Ampadu played center-back in two UEFA Nations League matches and will now travel to Bramall Lane for better opportunities. Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder spoke highly of Ampadu and admitted they were trying to get the soon-to-be 20-year-old player next season.

"We need to thank Frank Lampard and the people at Chelsea for helping making this happen. We've got a good relationship with them and they know we're going to take good care of him," Wilder said via Sky Sports. "It's an important season for Ethan and playing in the Premier League for us is a good move for everyone. He brings a lot of qualities to the group and he's someone we've tracked for two or three seasons."

Ampadu becomes the latest player to be added by the Blades. Before this development, they had also signed Jayden Bogle, Max Lowe, Aaron Ramsdale and Wes Foderingham. Sheffield United continues to take in more talent following an impressive season where they narrowly missed out on Europa League qualification with a ninth-place finish.

The move is expected to help Ampadu develop further. Wales boss Ryan Giggs wanted to see the Welsh international player more regularly after starting only two games on loan with RB Leipzig last season.

"I want all the players to be playing regularly, but that sometimes isn't the case," Giggs said. "It's that balance over whether they're at a top club and surrounded by top players and improving every day, but ultimately you need minutes on the pitch.

It will be a second temporary switch for Ampadu who ironically had a chance to play with new Blues signee Timo Werner with RB Leipzig. He played seven games in Germany that included a full 90 minutes in a Champions League round-of-16 win at Tottenham on Leipzig’s path to the semi-finals according to the Chelsea FC website.
