Two of Ireland's youngest convicted killers, now 15, was sentenced on Tuesday for the murder of 14-year-old Ana Kriegel. One of them received life imprisonment.

The two boys were found guilty of murdering Kriegel, whose naked body was found in a deserted farmhouse in Lucan, County Dublin in May 2018. The boys have been granted anonymity due to their age.

The first teenager, referred to as Boy A during the trial in Dublin's Central Criminal Court, was found guilty with murder and aggravated sexual assault charges. He was sentenced to life imprisonment with a review period following 12 years. The second teenager, referred to as Boy B, was found guilty of murder and has been sentenced to 15 years of imprisonment and will be reviewed after eight years.

Kriegel was lured out of her house by the boys. According to her parents, Kriegal was socially awkward, was bullied and had no friends. She also was had poor eyesight and hearing and short-term memory disorder. Her parents got worried when she did not return home that night. She was missing for three days when the police discovered Kriegel’s body with signs of assault.

Kriegel had suffered head and neck injuries, as well as attempted vaginal penetration, as per a post-mortem report. Boy A had denied both charges of assaulting and murdering Kriegel. Boy B did not accept the unanimous jury verdict that found him guilty.

"Boy A, you took Ana Kriegel's life and subjected her to a terrifying sexual and physical assault in doing so," Justice Paul McDermott, Dublin's Central Criminal Court, said.

"Boy B, you actively participated in her killing," McDermott said.

"Imagine the terror. Imagine the pain she suffered," Geraldine Kriegel, Ana’s mother said, reported The Sun. "That will live with us all our lives. We lie awake at night thinking about the fear she felt when she realised she was going to be killed."

Kriegel was born in Novokuznets, Russia in 2004 and was living in an orphanage before she was adopted by Patrick and Geraldine Kriegel when she was 2-year-old.

"Thank you to all of the wonderful people out there that supported us and kept us going," her mother said at a news conference.
