An NBA legend from the 90’s said that Anthony Davis will be the MVP and the Detroit Pistons will make the finals once again.

Back in the mid 90’s, Detlef Schrempf was one of the key players in the Seattle Supersonics. More than two decades since Schrempf last played in the NBA Finals, the Sonics legend made a bold prediction for this season.

In an exclusive interview with GQ, Schrempf did his best to name the teams and players who will be notable this year.

According to Schrempf, Detroit Pistons will compete for the title, Davis will be the NBA season MVP but the Lakers will not make the Finals.

Schrempf turned to Lakers’ LA rivals and predicted that the LA Clippers and the Portland Trail Blazers will face each other in the Western Conference Finals.

“NBA Basketball is going to be really exciting. Okay this is really difficult. I’m going to go wild and say it is going to be Detroit in the finals from the East. How about that?,” Schrempf predicted.

“Western Conference finals is going to be between Portland Trailblazers and LA Clippers. And the MVP is going to be Anthony Davis,” Schrempf added.

As Schrempf looked back in his playoff experiences, he mentioned how hard it was to win. Based on his recollection, there was a time when the Lakers beat them in game 7 and he tried to be optimistic. However, deep inside, he knew that it will be hard to make it to the playoffs the following year.

“There was another time with Portland (Trail Blazers) that we should have been in the finals, probably wouldn’t have won it. But we lost the seventh game in the playoffs to the Lakers and I remember saying, ‘don’t worry we’ll be back next year.’ But the truth is, it is not that easy ,” Schrempf recalled.

“It is very hard to get back there. There are injuries, sometimes there is the chemistry. is, it is not that easy,” Schrempf added.

Back in the current NBA, Davis and the Lakers appeared to have adapted quickly as the they defeated the Warriors 123-101 in their preseason game.

Lakers Head Coach Frank Vogel couldn’t help but express his excitement towards what Davis could be and do for the team this season, Los Angeles Times reported.

“I’m excited about what we can be, we got a little bit of a taste of it tonight. [Davis] is a monster. It’s going be very difficult to slow him down with what we have around him. I’m excited about what he’s going to do and Lakers fans should be too,” Vogel admitted.
