KEY POINTS

  • Apple has released a new AirPods Pro firmware version
  • The firmware version may or may not include fixes to ANC problems in the previous version
  • It can be downloaded and installed to AirPods Pros now

Apple has released a new firmware version for the AirPods Pro, firmware version 2D15. This comes months after the company released version 2C54 for the noise-cancelling pair of AirPods.

iPhoneHacks noted that this is the third firmware version Apple has released for the AirPods Pro, following after firmware version 2C54 which was released in December last year, and firmware version 2B588 which was released in November last year, a month after the audio accessory was released.

Several AirPods Pro users noted that firmware version 2C54 improved the bass performance of the AirPods Pro, but it lowered the performance of the device's active noise cancellation feature. Tech reviewer rtings.com looked into the issue and revealed that the firmware version did cause a drop in ANC performance, particularly when blocking out low-frequency noises such as engine rumbles.

Now that firmware version 2D15 is out, AirPods Pro users can get it and install it in the hopes that the ANC issues that the previous version will now be fixed. There's no guarantee to it, however, as there are no reports of people talking about improvements to ANC. Nevertheless, here's how to download and install firmware version 2D15:

  • First, users should put the AirPods Pro in the case, if these aren't in yet.
  • Next, users should connect the case to the charger (wired or wireless, if any) to charge them.
  • Then, users must make sure that the AirPods Pro is connected to their iPhones or iPads and that it is near the device.
  • Lastly, users must make sure that the iPhone or iPad is connected to the internet.

After this, the AirPods Pro should be able to download and install the latest firmware version automatically. Those who are unsure if the audio device does it right can also download and install the new firmware version manually by doing the following:

  • First, users should connect the AirPods Pro to an iOS device
  • Second, on the iOS device, users should to to Settings > General > About > AirPods Pro
  • Third, once there, users should check the firmware version and update it as needed.
