Superhero movies love to leave a scene at the end of the credits, and “Aquaman” is no different. The Warner Bros. movie has one post-credits scene that’s technically a mid-credits scene, coming at the end of the animated sequence. There’s nothing waiting at the very end of the credits, but the sole scene definitely hints that this isn’t the last audiences have seen of Aquaman.

[Spoilers Below]

The post-credits scene of “Aquaman” reveals that Arthur (Jason Momoa) didn’t actually defeat Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) during their battle in Italy. The villain is floating on a piece of driftwood when a boat finds him.

When he wakes up, he sees that Dr. Stephen Shin (Randall Park) is the one responsible for saving him. Dr. Shin appeared earlier in the movie on a TV where he was trying to convince others of Atlantis’ existence. Now, he has Black Manta in his lair, which is covered in newspaper clippings and photos trying to piece clues about Aquaman and Atlantis together.

Shin inspects Black Manta’s helmet and accidentally sets off the lasers. “Can you tell me how you got this?” Shin asks.

“Sure, but first you gotta tell me how to find him,” the villain says.

It seems pretty clear that Black Manta will have a sidekick in the sequel, should Warner Bros. order one.

Dr. Shin has been changed from the comics. The DC source material had Shin help Arthur learn how to use his powers. It looks like the movie is deviating from that storyline.
