Arizona State announced on Sunday that coach Todd Graham has been fired after six seasons with the Sun Devils, a decision that left many baffled, according to Twitter. The team has offered Graham a buyout worth $12.3, NFL Insider Darren Rovell reported.

ASU vice president of athletics Ray Anderson released a statement after the announcement. The move comes after the Sun Devils beat Arizona 42-30 on Saturday and secured 7-5 record to end the regular season. The team is second in the Pac-12 and are eligible to reach the bowl. Graham and his staff are expected to remain with the team through the postseason, ESPN reported.

"From the moment he arrived in Tempe, Todd helped change the culture and emphasized the student in student-athlete here at Arizona State, elevating the program to unprecedented heights in the classroom and strong citizenship across the board," Anderson said in a statement. "However, our athletic department, university, and community expect our football program to compete on the field for Pac-12 titles, be competitively consistent and qualify to participate in major bowl games on a regular basis. In evaluating Todd's body of work over a four-year period, it became clear that a change is necessary."

The decision shocked many fans who took to Twitter Sunday and aired their grievances.

Graham, 52, has three years left on his contract and is owed $12 million. Since he departed from Pittsburg, Graham led the Sun Devils to three straight bowl appearances. However, the team wavered last season, finishing 5-7 with a struggling defense, which ranked among the worst in the league. The team went 6-7 during the 2015 regular season.
