  • Juventus defender reportedly rejected Barca's $80.9m offer to sign Matthijs de Ligt
  • Barcelona are believed to step up pursuit of Martinez

La Liga giants Barcelona are reportedly set to make better offers to lure Lautaro Martinez and a pair of Juventus stars.

One of the biggest names linked to a move to Barcelona is Cristiano Ronaldo’s Juventus teammate Matthijs de Ligt. It was previously reported that the promising defender has been monitoring Barcelona’s situation and will be open to reconsidering a possible move to Camp Nou should the opportunity arises.

According to The Daily Mail, Barca have finally responded to De Ligt’s expectations and reportedly offered a £66 million ($80.9 million) bid. However, reports claimed that the Serie A giants “rebuffed” the said potential deal. Despite being rejected, Barcelona is said to be pushing hard for the Dutchman as the club is reportedly on a hunt for a solid defender.

After an impressive 2018/19 season with Ajax, De Ligt has had his fair share of struggles in his first season with Juventus. Despite not completely having an exceptional 2019/20 run, the Old Lady is believed to be still keen on keeping De Ligt as their future star.

Aside fron De Ligt, the Catalan club has also been linked with a multiplayer deal involving Juventus midfielder Miralem Pjanic over the weekend. Recent reports claimed that Barcelona and Juventus have already reached a deal which will see Pjanic along with full-back Mattia de Sciglio at Camp Nou.

The deal states that Juventus are sending both players to Barcelona at the end of the season together with an additional €25 million ($27.3 million) in exchange for right-back Nelson Semedo.

Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo (via Whoscored.com) reported that Barcelona aren’t only keen on pursuing De Ligt, Pjanic and De Sciglio. The paper claims that Barca is also revamping their offer to lure Inter Milan striker Martinez as well. Barcelona have developed a long standing interest in Martinez as the club looks to secure a possible successor for veteran Luis Suarez. At 33, Suarez has already reached his the graying years of his career and Martinez has been viewed as a suitable replacement.

Unlike Suarez, Martinez hasn't been consistent in his goal scoring assignment this season. The Argentine striker has hit the back of the net only 11 times for Inter but his attributes seem to have convinced Bacelona to make a move.

Meanwhile, following the massive transfer talks involving Barcelona, one of the club’s youngsters Xavier Mbuyamba has opted to leave Camp Nou for Real Madrid. Mbuyamba’s agent revealed that his client wants to leave Barcelona due to huge uncertainty concerning the youngsters chances of playing for the first-team.
