  • Manchester City has confirmed Sergio Aguero will leave the club at the end of the season
  • Barcelona has been linked to Aguero, but Ronaldo Koeman isn't interested
  • The Argentine striker vows to be at his best in his remaining days with the Citizens

Amid the hype of possibly having Sergio Aguero on his squad, Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman might not be interested in pursuing the world-class striker after all.

Rumors are now widespread that soon-to-be free agent Aguero could join his national side teammate Lionel Messi in Barcelona.

However, it is said that the club’s head coach isn’t keen on signing Aguero, Spanish publication Sport reported.

According to the report, Koeman’s “bet” in the next transfer window is still Lyon’s Memphis Depay.

Between Aguero and Depay, the Dutchman thinks the latter can adapt better to his system and could play a number of positions in the front.

Aguero, on the other hand, has been deemed by Koeman as a plain striker.

Furthermore, it was also noted that Depay poses a better locker room presence and would be more open to spending time on the bench compared to Aguero, who is used to being a key figure in Manchester City.

Aguero has been a hero in the club, having played the best seasons of his career with the Citizens. The Argentine has spent 10 seasons with Manchester City and won four league titles in the process.

In a recent heartfelt statement on his official social media account, the 32-year-old expressed his regret over the situation.

According to Aguero, Manchester City will always be “in his heart.” Though he is on the verge of parting ways with his beloved club, he vows to maintain his “professionalism” and be at his best until the end of the season.

"A huge sense of satisfaction and pride remains in me for having played with Manchester City for a whole ten seasons - unusual for a professional player in this day and age,” Aguero said in the statement. "Ten seasons with major achievement, throughout which I was able to become the top historic goalscorer and forging an indestructible bond with all those who love this club--people who will always be in my heart.”

"The task to maintain this well-deserved privileged position will remain on others,” the striker added. "As for myself, I will continue to give it my utmost for the rest of the season to win more titles and bring more joy to the fans.”

"Then, a new stage with new challenges will begin and I am fully ready to face them with the same passion and professionalism that I have always dedicated to continue competing at the highest level."
