Ben Affleck broke down while filming a personal scene in “The Way Back.”

Affleck admitted that he had a hard time filming his movie “The Way Back” which follows the story of an alcohol addict struggling to get back on his feet while working through a divorce. The story was similar to what he experienced when he was still married to Jennifer Garner.

Initially, Affleck was tasked to helm the film. However, he brought it to Gavin O’Connor and the pair worked together with Affleck joining the cast. O’Connor admitted that he didn’t think Affleck’s issues were very intense until they started filming.

“Once we started to prep the movie, he went into rehab. He sort of fell off the wagon. So now we were prepping the movie while he was in rehab and we thought it was going to fall apart,” the producer told The Associated Press on Thursday. “But he still wanted to do it. When he got out, he was incredibly raw and vulnerable and I think a little lost just in regard to having to confront the demons.

In one scene, Affleck’s character tried to make amends with his wife and the “Argo” actor was blown away. They were shocked when Affleck broke down.

“It was probably the second take, Ben just had a breakdown. I’m getting chills thinking about it. It was like the dam broke and everything came out,” the director said. “I just remember the crew, everyone was frozen, watching him bear his soul. It was obviously real. A lot of things that he probably had to say in his own life, or maybe he had said, I don’t know.”

Affleck revealed in his interview with The New York Times that the biggest regret in his life was his divorce with Garner. He confessed that he never thought he would be a divorcee.

Meanwhile, Garner’s boyfriend John Miller was reportedly “uncomfortable” with Affleck’s interview because it put the “Miracles from Heaven” star on the spotlight when he talked about their marriage. A source said that he was hoping Affleck would consider her feelings before speaking publicly.

Affleck said that he has a better relationship with Garner and their kids today. Garner is also supportive of Affleck’s rehabilitation.
