KEY POINTS

  • "Beyond Good and Evil 2" has been in development since 2012
  • Ubisoft confirmed the game's development process was going well
  • Ubisoft has not yet revealed the release window of "Beyond Good and Evil 2"

Ubisoft confirmed in July that "Beyond Good and Evil 2" was in development but aside from that, information about the sequel remained scarce. Interestingly, a new leak reveals some information that could disappoint Xbox One and PlayStation 4 gamers.

The latest detail about "Beyond Good and Evil 2" came from a Resetera user. It looks like Ubisoft will no longer release the game on previous generation gaming systems like PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

The user claimed to have uncovered the details while checking the beta invite for XDefiant, an upcoming shooter title from Ubisoft. Having registered to "Beyond Good and Evil 2" beta a couple of years ago, the user was able to check the game's beta and found that it had only listed Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, PS5 and PC as its platforms.

If true, it could be very disappointing since the game was initially announced for PC, PS4 and Xbox One. The user, however, clarified that the platforms might be for the game's beta only and not for the official copy.

"I've signed up for the BG&E 2 beta years ago and had Xbox One chosen there but it looks like at least the beta will be current-gen only," the user shared on the popular video games forum. While there are rumors about the game's release window, fans might have to wait a little longer to get their hands on the heavily anticipated sequel.

Rumors have it that the game might be having some development issues. Last year, "Beyond Good and Evil" game designer Michael Ancel left the company and his departure might have impacted the game's production process.

The French video game developer and publisher has been insisting that the development of "Beyond Good and Evil 2" is making good progress. However, last month, Ubisoft CFO Frederick Duguet said, "We are progressing well with Beyond Good and Evil 2, but it's too early to tell you more at this stage," when asked if the game would release in 2024.

"Beyond Good and Evil 2" has been in development since 2012. It entered into pre-production in 2016. The game was announced at E3 2017.
