A spinoff for “Big Bang Theory” will soon air on CBS, and it will follow the life of a young Sheldon Cooper.

In the original sitcom, Sheldon is played by award-winning actor Jim Parsons. At present, casting for a young Sheldon is already taking place. The actor should be between the ages of eight and 11. He should also have a socially awkward vibe and a geeky appearance just like his older counterpart. The casting call also describes the young Sheldon as someone who is quirky, witty, confident, short-tempered and fiercely ritualistic.

Meanwhile, the spinoff is also expected to feature Sheldon’s mom, Mary (Laurie Metcalf), in its upcoming episodes. According to Deadline, Sheldon grew up with Mary, so it is only logical to have the female character on the show. There are also rumors that new characters will be introduced in the spinoff, namely, Sheldon’s older brother, George, and twin sister, Missy. Meemaw (June Squibb), Sheldon’s grandmother, may also appear in some episodes.

It has already been confirmed that none of the original cast members from “Big Bang Theory” will be shown in the spinoff. The ongoing sitcom that is now on its 10th season features Penny (Kaley Cuoco), Leonard (Johnny Galecki), Amy (Mayim Bialik), Bernadette (Melissa Rauch), Raj (Kunal Nayyar) and Howard (Simon Helberg).

In other news, the creators and execs of “Big Bang Theory” will also be actively involved in creating the spinoff. Showrunner Steve Molaro, cast member Parsons and executive producers Bill Prady and Chuck Lorre are currently conceptualizing storylines for the spinoff. Even though the show doesn’t have a confirmed pilot date yet, it is likely to get picked up by CBS since “Big Bang Theory” is one of its most popular sitcoms to date.
