  • "The Big Bang Theory" stars Kaley Cuoco and Johnny Galecki dated for two years before splitting in 2009
  • They broke up but still had to film intimate scenes with each other
  • Cuoco said she and Galecki are now closer than before they split

Kaley Cuoco opened up about working with her ex, Johnny Galecki, and filming sex scenes with him for “The Big Bang Theory.”

The actress told Dax Shepard on the latest episode of the “Armchair Expert” podcast that she and Galecki still had to shoot intimate scenes after they broke up in 2009. Cuoco and her ex played onscreen partners Penny and Leonard in the hit sitcom.

“When we broke up obviously it was a little sensitive for a minute, but I remember those weeks that Chuck [Lorre] had written these episodes where all of a sudden our characters were like sleeping together every other second,” she said.

Cuoco and Galecki talked about the increase in their characters’ sex scenes, leaving her to suspect that Lorre was doing this on purpose. Laughing, the actress said she would ask the director about it.

“If I was with him, I would ask him because that came out of nowhere. All of a sudden these characters were all up on each other," Cuoco said.

The 34-year-old also spoke about how her relationship with Galecki developed while they were filming the show. Cuoco revealed that she immediately had a crush on her co-star when they shot the pilot episode of “The Big Bang Theory.”

However, Galecki had a girlfriend at the time. Eventually, they dated, which lasted for two years, and tried to keep it under wraps. Unfortunately, things didn’t work out.

“We got together and just fell mad for each other for two years, but then we broke up. Luckily Johnny and I came out of it so brilliantly and we’re closer today than we ever were,” Cuoco shared.

The exes starred on “The Big Bang Theory” from 2007 until its end in 2019. Both of them have since moved on with other people. Cuoco got married to Karl Cook in 2018, while Galecki and Alaina Meyer welcomed their child last year.

Cuoco previously revealed that she and Galecki dated secretly during the show's run, explaining that they became “so protective of ourselves and the show and didn't want anything to ruin that.” However, hiding their relationship from people took a toll on both of them.
