Day one of the 2020 Democratic National Convention ended with a performance by Billy Porter and Stephen Stills that received some mixed reactions from viewers.

While the “Pose” star sung a cover of Buffalo Springfield’s “For What It’s Worth” to round out Monday’s event, Stills played the tune on his guitar in the background as images of the recent protests played across the screen.

While some online thought Porter’s version of the song was a perfect way to end the night, others were less than pleased with his vocals after the official Democratic Convention Twitter account shared a video of the full performance.

“I like music. I like good music no matter what the politics of the players. That, last night, was a complete trampling of a classic. With Stills doing it! Sweet Jesus, now I cannot unhear it,” one person tweeted in response to the post.

Another user added, “Honest question: how many people had to watch this and approve of this?! Bad audio, cheesy [expletive] hell optics and just bad production/art. Makes me question their level of taste.”

Meanwhile, other viewers couldn’t help by praise Porter’s musical talent.

“FABULOUS @theebillyporter BRINGS IT!!! (pant pant pant) I don't know where to start. I was dancing on furniture. Your garb is devine. Flowed, great lines. I loved it,” one person wrote.

One Twitter user even admitted that the clip might have been the best performance they have ever seen, writing, “Billy Porter is so freakin fabulous I just can’t even!! This duet with him and Stills hit the ball clear out of the park. Prob should have been the closing act on the final night because I can’t imagine anything much better than this!”

The 2020 Democratic National Convention is a four-day virtual event that will run from through Thursday. Along with speeches, performances, and other political events, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are expected to officially accept the Democratic presidential and vice-presidential nominations for the upcoming election.
