Kat, Jane and Sutton are officially back for a fifth season of “The Bold Type” on Freeform, but this will be the show’s last and shortest season.

Season 5 will only be six episodes, which is below average. The first three seasons had 10 episodes, while the fourth had 16. Season 4 was supposed to have two more episodes, but the COVID-19 pandemic cut it short.

The show follows three women who work at Scarlet Magazine as a writer, a social media guru and a stylist. The dramedy follows their careers and relationships while trying to figure out how to adult in New York City.

“It has been a joy to watch Kat, Jane and Sutton live out their lives on-screen over the last four seasons and become an inspiration for so many young women along the way,” said Universal Television president Erin Underhill in a press release.

“This show will always hold a special place in my heart for its authenticity and ability to provoke meaningful conversations with each episode. I want to thank Wendy Straker Hauser and all the writers for telling these amazing stories that will undoubtedly live beyond the pages of Scarlet Magazine,” she continued.

The press release for Season 5 explained that “The Bold Type” has been named one of TV Guide’s “100 Best Shows on TV.”

Season 5 will center around Kat, Jane and Sutton figuring out their callings and what they want to do with--or without--the magazine.

The cast met virtually on Jan. 21 for their last season premiere table read, and everyone seemed to be in high spirits and excited to get the show on the road.

The first four seasons of "The Bold Type" are out now on Hulu. Season 5 doesn't have a release date yet but is expected later this year.
