  • Deontay Wilder says that the fight postponement was a blessing for him and his camp
  • He was able to surprise Fury with two knockdowns in their first fight
  • The trilogy fight is set to happen on Saturday, October 9

Deontay Wilder recently revealed that he was very thankful for his fight with Tyson Fury being delayed.

Speaking in a Zoom conference call, Wilder commented on the postponement.

“The delay was a blessing, a blessing for me. The more they delayed it, the more time we had to work on our craft and art and to go over even more, strategically, go over the game plan that we’re gonna have come October the 9th,” said Wilder as quoted by Boxing Scene.

Wilder pointed out that the delay initially frustrated him as he was raring to go against Fury but later softened his stance on the idea.

“As a fighter, you’re ready to go. You know, you’re ready to get back out there. And this is the longest I’ve been out of the ring, especially when I’m anxious to get in the ring,” Wilder stated.

“That ring just calls you there. It’s just something about boxing, it just draws you back.”

The trilogy fight between Fury and Wilder was postponed to Saturday, October 9 after the heavyweight king tested positive for COVID-19 back in July.

Fury recently refuted those who said that fighting Wilder would be an easy fight, noting that no one should be writing off the American in the first place.

Despite being finished by Fury via TKO in their second fight, “The Bronze Bomber” was able to put Fury on the canvas twice in their first meeting, with the second knockdown being the most telling of Wilder’s power.

However, “The Gypsy King” was able to rise to his feet and finish the fight to a disappointing draw.

Wilder knows that Fury can take massive amounts of damage and not feel a thing, but he is also very much aware that he should be able to capitalize on any mistake that the Brit makes.

“That time that we had, you know, it [has] benefitted me tremendously,” Wilder shared.

Fury and Wilder will be fighting at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
