  • Tyson Fury is not willing to overlook Deontay Wilder's power
  • Wilder was able to put Fury on the canvas twice in their first meeting
  • The trilogy fight is set to happen this Saturday, October 9

WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury is not overlooking the fact that Deontay Wilder remains a dangerous opponent, despite what many think.

Speaking with the BBC, Fury made sure that Wilder still received the respect befitting of a title contender and former champion.

“A lot of people are writing [Deontay[ Wilder off in this fight. They almost look at him like he's a bum. Like he can't fight and he's useless. You can't write him off,” said Fury as quoted by Boxing Scene.

“Make no mistake about this, Deontay Wilder is the most dangerous heavyweight out there. Combine them all together and they don't make a danger like [Deontay] Wilder. So that's what I'm messing with. I'm playing with an atomic bomb, messing 'round, clipping wires.”

Fury recognized the inhumane power that Wilder has in both hands, despite finishing the American via TKO in their second meeting in February of 2020.

“This is the third time now I've been in the ring with him and every single time he's been very dangerous. He's a very dangerous hombre with big, big power and he can close the distance quickly,” said Fury.

The British heavyweight felt Wilder’s power in their first meeting, and he knows exactly what Wilder is capable of doing if he gives the American a chance.

“With most boxers they need to hit you with five punches, with [Deontay] Wilder he can hit you with a quarter punch and knock you spark out," he stated.

That certainly seemed to be the case after “The Bronze Bomber” knocked him down in the 12th round of their first meeting.

Fury fell flat on the canvas after eating a straight right hand and a left hook, and only by his sheer will were he able to stand and finish the fight to a draw.

Their third fight was originally scheduled for July of this year but was moved to its current date, October 9 after Fury tested positive for COVID-19.

“The Gypsy King” is looking for a definitive end to their series when they meet for the third time this Saturday at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
