  • Manny Pacquiao's camp is rushing to design a new game plan for Yordenis Ugas
  • Ugas had backed Errol Spence Jr. in the canceled bout against Pacquiao
  • Pacquiao is no stranger to last-minute changes

Manny Pacquiao will have to alter his fight plan for August 21.

Original opponent Errol Spence Jr. has reportedly withdrawn from the fight due to an eye injury.

Hence, the main event will now pit Pacquiao against WBA welterweight champion Yordenis Ugas.

The 35-year old boxer is ranked ESPN’s No. 6 at 147 pounds and was originally set to defend his title against Fabian Maidana in the PBC for Fox pay-per-view as a chief-support bout.

Ironically, Maidana also suffered an injury during sparring on Monday and was also forced to withdraw from that bout.

Spence mentioned on social media how disappointed he was for being forced to withdraw against Pacquiao.

Three doctors have checked on him and are upbeat about his recovery. He plans to face the winner of the Pacquiao vs. Ugas fight once he is allowed to return to the ring after the surgery.

As far as he is concerned, the Cuban feels that Spence would have beaten Pacquiao had the original card pushed through.

Now the 35-year-old, who has 12 knockouts to his credit, gets a rare chance against Pacquiao.

He could be the one who may send the boxing legend into retirement–a chance that Spence originally had in mind.

As far as the Pacquiao camp is concerned, the need to alter their fight plan is a need. That includes having to adjust to the fact that "Pac-Man" is now facing a right-handed fighter and not a southpaw anymore.

Regardless, Team Pacquiao boss Sean Gibbons feels the boxing icon should have no trouble making the adjustments.

“He’s going from fighting a left-hander to fighting a right-hander. But again, you know when the senator made his name in this country was when he stepped in as a late replacement for Lehlo Ledwaba on HBO. So the senator adapts,” Gibbons stated via Fighthype.com.
