Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston may have split in 2005, but the “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” actor still has some regrets about the way he ended his marriage with the “Friends” alum.

After Pitt and Aniston finalized their divorce, the actor quickly moved on to Angelina Jolie, however, the couple split 11 years later in 2016. The 50-year-old actress married Justin Theroux in 2015, but they announced their split in February 2018.

Sources told Us Weekly that while Pitt “doesn’t like to dwell on the past,” he “of course wishes he’d handled the end of their marriage in a more thoughtful manner.”

Pitt, who shares six children with Jolie, attended Aniston’s 50th birthday party on Saturday night. While partygoers were surprised about his arrival, it turns out he first contacted the “Dumplin’” star years ago.

“He asked for Jen’s forgiveness a long time ago and she gave it,” the insider revealed.

The relationship between the two reportedly began to soften in May 2016, when Aniston’s mother, Nancy Dow died, and Pitt checked on his ex-wife. “Brad contacted Jen after her mom died, and she was touched that he knew what a difficult time it was,” a different source told the publication.

It appears Pitt isn’t the only ex Aniston has a cordial relationship with. Her estranged husband, Justin Theroux gave the actress a birthday shoutout on Instagram by posting her photo in celebration of the special occasion.

“Happy Birthday to this fierce Woman. Fiercely loving. Fiercely kind. ….and fiercely funny,” he wrote along with a black an white photo of Aniston.
