  • Kyrie Irving is being investigated for partying and breaching health protocols
  • The Brooklyn Nets issue a statement regarding the matter
  • Irving could face sanctions

Kyrie Irving has taken a personal leave with the Brooklyn Nets, but that does not mean he can do whatever he wants.

The 28-year-old guard was in a viral video at a large birthday party together with his sister who was celebrating her birthday with a large gathering present.

Given that the NBA is already dealing with a lot of adversity tied to the pandemic, this development could place “Uncle Drew” in a spot.

The six-time All-Star could be forced to undergo a mandatory 14-day quarantine period, assuming that he has plans of returning to the Brooklyn fold soon.

The footage of the video can be seen below. Aside from Irving’s sister, his dad is also celebrating his birthday this week.

The recent development adds a new twist to Irving who has missed the last four games for the Nets. He is believed to be holding out because of last week’s US Capitol attacks although Kevin Durant and Steve Nash hint that there could be something more.

The Nets have backed the one-time NBA champion, but this does not count.

Nets general manager Sean Marks issued a statement and revealed that they are now investigating to determine if Irving violated league health and safety protocols.

"Kyrie remains away from the team due to personal reasons," Marks said in the statement. "A date of his return has yet to be finalized. In the meantime, we will continue to stay focused on our organizational goals."

"Kyrie will have the opportunity to address his absence when he is ready to do so," the statement added.

The Nets are facing the Nuggets as of press time with Irving missing his fourth consecutive game. Brooklyn will visit the New York Knicks on Wednesday next, the first time this season.

Durant has returned to the fray as the Nets try to adjust with Irving not around. Players like Joe Harris and Caris LeVert have stepped up.

However, the fact remains that Irving’s numbers are huge ones to fill. In seven games, he averaged 27.1 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 6.1 assists.
