  • Bundesliga star Bas Dost has no interest in leaving Eintracht Frankfurt anytime soon
  • Dost thinks that he would not have been a starter for the Spurs had he signed with them
  • Former Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp said the Spurs are already stacked with talented players

Eintracht Frankfurt striker Bas Dost recently revealed why he wouldn’t want to sign with Tottenham Hotspur despite the strong interest from the Premier League club.

In an interview with German outlet Bild, Dost confirmed the rumors that Jose Mourinho’s side was keen on adding him to his squad this summer. However, the Bundesliga star was certain that he would not be a key player for Mourinho as the English club is already stacked with prolific goal scorers such as Harry Kane and Son Heung-min.

“I heard from my agent that they [Spurs] were very interested. That is special,” Dost said. “[However] I don’t think I would have become a starter there and I just want to play.”

Dost left Sporting Lisbon for Eintracht in 2019 and has been doing well with the German side. Apart from doubts over getting a starter role with the Spurs, the 31-year-old also pointed out that he still wants to play for Eintracht and doesn’t see himself leaving anytime soon.

“I have never left a club after one year in my career,” the striker stressed. “Especially not now, because I still have a lot to show here. I am far from finished at Eintracht.”

The Dutch striker has tallied a total of 12 goals in 33 games for Eintracht since completing his €7 million ($8.2 million) transfer from Sporting in August last year. However, his exceptional goal-scoring run in Portugal is what seemed to have caught the attention of Mourinho, with the player bagging 93 goals in 127 appearances in the Portuguese league.

Mourinho, who was vocal about his desire to add a credible backup striker in the summer, had shortlisted Dost as an option for center-forward, The Guardian reported.

According to the report, Dost presented a strong case in filling the position as he has the physique and experience the renowned manager has been looking for. Spurs had talks with Frankfurt last month and wanted any deal to be permanent. The Bundesliga club valued Dost’s permanent exit at €5.5 million ($6.4 million), but the Spurs reportedly preferred a loan deal.

Despite Mourinho’s statement that the Spurs needed another striker, former Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp thinks that his squad is already equipped with talented players who are serious title contenders this season.

“I am telling you, that is some squad they have got,” Redknapp recently told Sky Sports. “They have got cover in every position. It is a really powerful squad. They could be scary. I think Tottenham are a danger to anyone in that division this year.
