A man killed his wife and 12-year-old stepson in an apparent murder-suicide incident in Ceres, California. The bodies of the victims were found early Monday in their apartment.

Officials identified the victims as 34-year-old Manpreet Kaur and her son, 12-year-old Gurman Singh. According to police, Kaur’s husband of four years, 55-year-old Jang Singh, shot both his wife and stepson while they were sleeping.

According to local police, the woman and her son had recently moved to the U.S. from India to live with Jang Singh. On Sunday night, the mother and the child were sleeping in the living room of their Ceres apartment because Jang Singh’s 80-year-old mother was staying the night. In the early hours of Monday, Jang Singh entered the living room without provocation and shot the mother and son. He then walked to his bedroom and shot himself.

His 80-year-old mother woke up to the sound of gunshots and went to a neighbor to call 911.

Authorities said that the incident was captured on a video surveillance system that Jang Singh installed in the apartment “some time ago.”

In another murder-suicide incident in Arkansas, two people were found dead inside a home. Greene County authorities said that a husband killed his wife before shooting himself. Deputies went to a call in the 1000 block of Greene Road 714 after a family member found the bodies of two people. The deceased were identified as Lindsey Downing, 36, and her husband, James Downing, 37, both of Paragould.

Authorities said that evidence indicates that the shooting took place following a domestic dispute.

"Mrs. Lindsey Downing was in the process of leaving the residence. James Downing then shot and killed Mrs. Lindsey Downing and then turned the gun on himself and took his own life," Sheriff Steve Franks said.
