  • Robert Garcia is convinced David Benavidez could give Saul “Canelo” Alvarez a tough fight
  • Garcia thinks Benavidez is by far the only fighter who can beat Alvarez
  • Bob Arum recently predicted that Edgar Berlanga could defeat the Mexican two years from now

An undefeated super middleweight boxing champion has been tipped to beat Saul “Canelo” Alvarez.

Ahead of his super middleweight championship bout against Caleb Plant, Alvarez has become the subject of recent discussions and some have been asked to name the active fighter who could possibly stop him

To put it into context, Alvarez has been enjoying a 14-fight winning streak with his last defeat being against Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2013.

Since then, the Mexican boxing superstar incredibly improved and is now arguably the pound-for-pound king.

But like any other superstar fighter, some believe that Alvarez too will soon meet his kryptonite.

Sharing his thoughts on the matter, veteran boxing coach Robert Garcia explained that he doesn’t see anybody stopping Alvarez at the moment.

If there is, Garcia thinks it could be former WBC super middleweight champion David Benavidez.

“I don’t think there is anyone right now who can handle Canelo [Alvarez]“, Garcia recently told Fight Hub TV. “I feel that the only one that could cause him problems, and at some point beat him is [David] Benavidez.”

In case Alvarez still manages to pull off a win over Benavidez, Garcia is certain the latter will at least give the multi-division champ “some headaches.”

“[Benavidez] is a very tall fighter, very brave and he is not afraid to go forward,” the coach assessed. “I think it could bring a lot of trouble to someone like Canelo. I still believe that Canelo would win, but it could give him some headaches.”

Famed boxing promoter Bob Arum is another name in the sport who recently weighed in on the subject.

Much like Garcia, Arum also thinks no one has the ability to put an end on Alvarez’s streak at least until the next “two years.”

After the said timeframe, the 89-year-old predicted that super middleweight boxing sensation Edgar Berlanga could possibly get the job done.

“I don’t think anybody beats Canelo,” Arum predicted. “He’s just that good. Maybe in two years or a year and a half, [Edgar] Berlanga [could].”

Like Benavidez, Berlanga also has a flawless record in the pros and has gone unbeaten since 2016.

Atop that, Berlanga has also proven that he has devastating power in his hands with 16 of his 17 wins coming by way of knockout.

In the process, some have even referred to him as the “Puerto Rican Mike Tyson.”
