Carson Wentz’s days with the Philadelphia Eagles appear to be numbered. The quarterback is likely to be traded before the NFL Draft and two teams stand out as possible destinations.

ESPN reported Saturday that the Eagles were nearing a deal for Wentz. The Chicago Bears and Indianapolis Colts were identified as teams with interest in the signal-caller. According to NJ.com, Wentz could be moved as early as this week. A third team may also be in the mix.

Wentz lost his starting job in Week 13 amid a miserable 2020 campaign. Jalen Hurts stepped in as Philadelphia’s starting quarterback, and he will likely have the role in 2021.

Completing just 57.4% of his attempts with 16 touchdowns passes and 15 interceptions, Wentz was arguably the NFL’s most beleaguered starting quarterback. Signed to a contract that runs through the 2024 season and includes $107 million in guaranteed money, Wentz has a $34 million cap hit for 2021.

Wentz is only 28 years old, and it wasn’t long ago that he was viewed as a burgeoning quarterback. He was an MVP candidate in the 2017 season and carried the Eagles to the NFC East title in 2019.

Indianapolis might believe its coaching staff can resurrect Wentz’s career. Colts head coach Frank Reich, wide receivers coach Mike Groh and passing game coordinator Press Taylor were all Eagles coaches with Wentz as the starter at some point.

The Colts are in need of a quarterback following the retirement of Philip Rivers.

Mitch Trubisky's days as the Bears' starting quarterback were in jeopardy for much of the 2020 season, leading many to speculate about what moves the front office would make in the offseason. Chicago quarterback coach John DeFilippo was Wentz’s quarterback coach when he played his best football in Philadelphia.

The Detroit Lions and Los Angeles Rams have already agreed to a blockbuster quarterback trade, swapping Jared Goff and Matthew Stafford. Other quarterbacks that are expected to be dealt in the offseason include Deshaun Watson, Sam Darnold and Nick Foles.

Any deal for Wentz would likely include draft picks. Chicago has the 20th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Indianapolis owns the 21st pick.
