It appears “Castle” fans may not be too thrilled about Stana Katic’s exit from the long-running series. Viewers have been left wondering exactly how her character Kate Beckett would be written out of the show ever since ABC announced last week that Season 8 would be Katic’s last.

Details of Beckett’s storyline have not been revealed, but TVLine said Wednesday that it likely would be “less than ideal.” The media outlet added, “You can probably count on Season 9, which has not officially been ordered yet, kicking off with a significant time jump.”

In a synopsis for the Season 8 finale, possibly Beckett’s last episode, it’s teased that she and Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion) will be on a mission to catch LokSat, which puts “their case, and their lives, in jeopardy.”

Katic confirmed her exit from the series last week, tweeting that she appreciated her fans.

In an official statement, the 37-year-old actress wrote: “Rather than distract from what was an amazing experience, I would just like to say that I’m very grateful to ABC for giving me the opportunity to be a part of a much-beloved show. Thank you to the fans.”

Co-star Fillion, who plays Beckett’s love interest on the show, also commented on the shocking departure. After tweeting that he hopes “Castle” sticks around for “years to come,” he added: “Stana has been my partner all this time, and I thank her for creating the character of Beckett, who will live on for all of us as one of the greatest police officers on television. I wish her well, and have no doubt she will succeed in everything she pursues. She will be missed.”

ABC also revealed that Tamala Jones (Laine Parish) would join Katic in not returning for Season 9 of the crime drama.
