As several states nationwide are beginning to relax their mask mandates, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is reportedly planning to update its guidelines, according to NBC News.

The health agency’s suspected amendment to its indoor mask recommendations could be disclosed as early as next week. CDC director Dr. Rochelle Walensky is expected to go over guidelines Wednesday at a White House COVID Response Team briefing.

The news comes just days after Walensky shared her concerns regarding states alleviating their mask mandates.

“I know people are interested in taking masks off,” Dr. Walensky said. “I too am interested. That would be one marker that we have much of the pandemic behind us."

Meanwhile, with new Omicron COVID cases on the decline in every state barring Maine, Chief Medical Advisor to President Biden, Dr. Anthony Fauci, has called states’ decisions to relieve mask mandates “entirely understandable.”
