Despite winning over Manchester City last weekend, Chelsea players will not be spared from criticism.

Although Thomas Tuchel has been doing a good job since taking over, players like Timo Werner have been hearing it from pundits, some even calling the German player “lazy.”

Two Arsenal legends--Ian Wright and Paul Merson--gave their take on Werner.

Both agree that Werner can do better if he can adjust and make proper decision-making.

In the eyes of Merson, the 25-year-old has so much space that he needs to get back onside. He noticed that Werner is running straight offside.

“One thing that’s still not quite right at Chelsea is the center forward position. I watch Timo Werner and I just think there’s something missing still,” Merson stated via Sky Sports.

The expectations from Werner were high following his prized acquisition for the current season.

Werner has struggled and gotten heavy criticism, but Merson feels he can still improve and help the Blues’ cause.

“He’s certainly not a lazy player, but he’s just got to take more care in making runs in behind. He runs offside too many times for me,” the Gunners legend explained.

While that could change, Merson feels that Chelsea would best look for a new striker this coming summer.

Despite the takeover of Tuchel from Frank Lampard, the 53-year-old believes the Blues need someone who is going to be in the top four or five goal scorers if they want to challenge for the English Premier League.

“You need a natural goal scorer there who puts that in the back of the net with the minimum of fuss and you get back to the halfway line. For me, they need a forward,” Merson stated.

That is something that Tuchel could address in the summer although he does have multiple young players who could step up.

For now, the main focus is their current campaign, with Tuchel keeping the faith in Werner.

“He will learn from it. Maybe do not take too many risks, maybe take a bit more care about his starting position and there is room for improvement,” Tuchel stated.

Up next for the Blues are Arsenal and Leicester City in the FA Cup final on Saturday.

Werner will once again be in the spotlight, hopefully playing better in a turbulent first season with the Blues.
