The hospital staff mourns the loss of one of their own who committed suicide in “Chicago Med” Season 2, episode 17. Elizabeth Sisson/NBC

NBC’s “Chicago Med” aired a shocking episode last week in which Dr. Natalie Manning (Torrey DeVitto) treated a coma patient that suddenly became pregnant. Meanwhile, Dr. Latham (Ato Essandoh) froze during surgery because he was on medication. He later confided in his student, Dr. Connor Rhodes (Colin Donnell), that his treatments made him look at his patient as a human being and not as a surgical challenge. He lost his sense of detachment while operating on her which resulted in his emotions clouding his judgement.

What will happen this week in “Chicago Med”?

In Season 2, episode 17, titled “Monday Mourning,” the doctors and nurses at the hospital will be shaken when they learn that a staff member suicided. Things get worse in the hospital when Manning treats a young boy who fell in the river. This boy’s suicide attempt triggers more drama in “Chicago Med.” Manning hopelessly watches his family’s turmoil unfold while treating the boy.

The promo shows Manning desperately trying to save the young patient’s life. She even cries at one point of time.

Elsewhere in the hospital, a face off takes place between Dr. Ethan Choi (Brian Tee) and Dr. Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) when they disagree over the course of treatment for a patient exhibiting symptoms of a stroke.

Thursday’s episode of the medical drama will see Rhodes work closely with Dr. Sarah Reese (Rachel DiPillo). The two examine the man who saved Manning’s patient. While they are working together, Rhodes emphasizes to Sarah the importance of learning from one’s mistakes. It is rare to see these two doctors from vastly varying fields working together.

Catch “Chicago Med” Season 2 episodes on Thursdays at 9 p.m. EST on NBC.
