Chelsea Kane and Drew Seeley make their Hallmark debuts in Thursday’s “A Christmas for the Books.” MarVista Entertainment

In a last-minute add to Hallmark Movies & Mysteries’ Miracles of Christmas event, Chelsea Kane and Drew Seeley’s “A Christmas for the Books” is premiering tonight.

The MarVista film had been floating around, waiting for a distribution deal, when Hallmark swooped in and decided to make it a Miracles of Christmas movie. Kane’s known for her TV shows, like ABC Family/Freeform’s “Baby Daddy,” which wrapped last year, and Disney Channel’s “Jonas.” She also starred in the Disney Channel Original Movies “Minutemen” and “StarStruck.”

As for Seeley, he popped up in the 2004 DCOM “Stuck in the Suburbs” briefly, but then made more of a name for himself when he was revealed to be Troy Bolton’s singing voice in “High School Musical” in 2006. He ended up going on tour with the cast to perform songs from the movie. He continued to show off his musical chops in 2008’s “Another Cinderella Story,” opposite Selena Gomez, as well as with his personal music.

Although this is the first Hallmark movie for both Kane and Seeley, this isn’t their first project together. The two are reuniting onscreen in “A Christmas for the Books,” five years after starring in ABC Family’s (now Freeform) musical rom-com, “Lovestruck: The Musical,” in 2013.

Here’s what you can expect:

“Author and self-help guru Joanna Moret (Kane) wrote the playbook on love – literally,” the synopsis begins. “So, when Joanna is presented with an opportunity for her own TV show, she fears that the recent breakup with her boyfriend will ruin her image as a relationship expert and turns to Ted (Seeley) for help. Ted poses as Joanna’s boyfriend for the holidays as she plans her future boss’s Christmas gala, and in exchange Joanna agrees to help Ted win back his ex-girlfriend.”

The synopsis continues: “Despite their many differences, Joanna and Ted form a connection. Even when Joanna meets Del (Chad Connell) – who is a better fit for her according to her own book – and when Ted’s ex-girlfriend considers giving him another chance, Joanna and Ted begin to wonder if they may be imperfectly perfect for one another. As Christmas approaches, Joanna must decide if she should follow her own playbook on the path to love or set it aside to pursue a new relationship.”

Letia Clouston directed the film from a script written by Thommy Hutson.

“A Christmas for the Books” debuts Thursday on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries at 9 p.m. EST.
