Hackers have made billions of dollars by exploiting various crypto exchanges over the past year, and Crypto.com verified Thursday that about $34 million in bitcoin and etherium was stolen Monday.

“On 17 January 2022, Crypto.com learned that a small number of users had unauthorized crypto withdrawals on their accounts,” the Singapore-based crypto exchange said in a blog post. “The incident affected 483 Crypto.com users.”

The company confirmed that the amount unofficially withdrawn totaled 4,836.26 ETH ($15.2 million), 443.93 BTC ($18.7 million) and $66,200, as reported by CoinDesk.

Crypto.com CEO Kris Marszalek told Bloomberg News that it intends to divulge more information regarding the incident in the near future. He also clarified that the affected consumers have been completely refunded.

In response to the unauthorized withdrawals, Crypto.com will establish the Worldwide Account Protection Program (WAPP). According to its blog post, “WAPP offers additional protection and security for user funds held in the Crypto.com App and the Crypto.com Exchange.”
