Automakers set to announce June car sales

Several automakers will announce results for sales in June on Wednesday. Ford will hold a conference call to stream live on the Internet at 1 p.m. EST. General Motors will hold a conference call at 2 p.m. EST. Pipas said Monday the industry as a whole is improving and the annualized sales rate could hit 10 million in June sales as fewer jobless claims and improved consumer confidence could boost sales. Annualized sales were 9.9 million in May, several surveys noted, according to Bloomberg.

General Mills to release 4Q results after dividend boost

General Mills will release its fourth quarter earnings at 8:00 a.m.. The packaged food on Monday announced it will raise its quarterly dividend 9.3 percent even as other companies have been cutting payments.

Sixty-two companies in the Standard & Poor's 500 Index announced cuts totaling $46.2 billion in 2009 as of May 15, according to analyst Howard Silverblatt, a senior analyst at S&P, according to Bloomberg. The figure was more than the full year record cut of $40.6 billion in 2008, he said.

Bank of America completes Countrywide Financial purchase

Bank of America Corp. will complete its purchase of Countrywide Financial Corp, giving Countrywide customers access to a wider variety of financial services provided by Bank of America.

NASA plans to launch Endeavour today

NASA is planning to launch space shuttle Endeavour today on a construction mission to the International Space Station. The U.S. space agency postponed Endeavour's launch on Saturday due to a potentially dangerous hydrogen leak. Repairs were expected to take four days.

New Nevada sales tax rate hike

Starting July 1, consumers face slightly higher sales taxes, businesses' annual fees will double and larger employers will shoulder higher payroll taxes when key elements of the 2009 Legislature's patchwork plan to raise $781 million in taxes take effect July 1. Sales tax goes up to 8.1 percent from 7.75 percent.
