The biggest news surrounding the Dallas Cowboys this preseason involves the potential contract extensions for their three stars on offense. With the team getting ready to play its first exhibition game of 2019, there are signs that a couple of new deals will be agreed upon before Week 1 of the regular season.

Ezekiel Elliott is holding out of training camp, likely looking for a record-setting contract for a running back. Dak Prescott and Amari Cooper are both practicing with the team, entering the final year of their contracts.

According to NFL Network’s Jane Slater, all three players have contract offers on the table that would put them among the five highest-paid players at their respective positions. Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer has indicated that contract talks with Prescott and Elliott have progressed further than Dallas’ negotiations with Cooper.

Elliott still has two years and close to $13 million left on his deal. Prescott is set to make a little over $2 million in 2019. Copper has a $13.924 million salary.

Elliott is likely looking to sign a contract that surpasses the four-year, $57 million deal Todd Gurley signed last summer. Le’Veon Bell got a four-year, $52.5 million contract from the New York Jets in the offseason. LeSean McCoy is the NFL’s fifth-highest paid running back with an $8 million average salary, per Spotrac.

Six quarterbacks have contracts that pay them an average salary of at least $30 million. Carson Wentz, who was taken in the 2016 NFL Draft along with Prescott, recently signed a new deal that will pay him an average $32 million salary.

The New Orleans Saints just made Michael Thomas the highest-paid receiver in the NFL, giving him an average salary of $19.25 million. DeAndre Hopkins and Brandin Cooks are tied for fifth among receivers with a $16.2 million average salary.

Prescott, Elliott and Cooper all made the Pro Bowl in both 2016 and 2018.
