After three weeks of competition the time has come once again to bid farewell to one of the pairs on “Dancing With The Stars.” Jake T. Austin and partner Jenna Johnson were the first couple cut from the show, leaving 12 celebrities and their partners in the running for the mirrorball trophy.

On Tuesday, following a round of face-off dances, six of the 12 Season 23 stars were on the chopping block. Many fans were surprised by the list of couples facing the axe, which included Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds, Terra Jolé and Marilu Henner — three previously high-scoring novice dancers on “DWTS.” The episode opened by revisiting Monday's performances, highlighting the good, the bad and the flat out ugly from every single performance. Fill-in co-host Kym Johnson-Herjavec noted the judges were especially harsh on the contestants this week, specifically Amber Rose. The former model accepted the criticism, but remained hopeful she and partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy have a future on “DWTS.”

The show moved into the actual cuts, with host Tom Bergeron announcing first and foremost that Marilu and partner Derek Hough will be continuing on the show. Amber and Maks, however, were still in danger of being removed from the “DWTS” cast. The next couple saved from elimination was, unsurprisingly, Babyface and Allison Holker. Tom breaks the news to Gov. Rick Perry and Emma Slater that they are in jeopardy yet again. Many believed the pair were going home in week 2 and were not shocked to see them on the chopping block again.

When the time finally came to eliminate a “DWTS” Season 23 pair, Amber and Maks; Rick and Emma; Terra and Sasha Farber were left standing uncertain of their fates. Tom announced, with just moments left in the show that Terra and Sasha will be returning to week 4 of “DWTS.” Rick and Emma, however, aren’t so lucky. Despite being eliminated, both expressed their excitement to have been a part of the cast and share with Tom what they've gained.

“My daughter’s getting married the 15th of October, but I can promise you I will look good on the dance floor,” Rick said in his final interview in the ballroom.

“DWTS” returns for a fourth week of competition on Monday, Oct. 3. The couples will be asked to perform what may be their most difficult performances yet — be sure to tune in to ABC at 8 p.m. EDT for all that and more.
