English soccer player David Beckham will star in the new series "Save Our Squad" for Disney Plus, which will be produced by Warner Bros while Beckham’s Studio 99 and BAFTA-winning production company, Twenty Twenty will co-produce the series.

Beckham, 45, will return to the East London football pitches in the series where he used to play as a kid. Disney commissioner Sean Doyle said, "This is a fantastic opportunity to show the importance and impact of grassroots football in communities in the U.K.," Variety reported.

"The series will be exciting, dramatic, uplifting and full of heart and courage – everything David had in his own playing days," Doyle added.

According to Deadline, Disney Plus plans to release 50 projects based in Europe by 2024. The first slot of the European projects will release in February 2022 including "The Good Mothers."

"It is fantastic to be making Save Our Squad with Twenty Twenty and to shine a light on the kind of grassroots football that I experienced growing up and which gave me so much at the start of my life in the game," Beckham told Variety.

"I was so fortunate to have a long and successful playing career and now to have the opportunity to give back to these communities as a mentor is incredible," he added. "Developing and nurturing young talent is so important in the game and it is great to be working with Disney+ on this project."

Beckham is all set to appear at MIPTV 2021 event Tuesday evening where he will discuss his current and upcoming projects. The official handle of MIP took to Twitter Monday and wrote, "David Beckham tells the #MIPTV Preview about his production company, Studio 99, ahead of tomorrow's MIPTV keynote."

“It’s amazing to see what guys that I admire, like LeBron and Maverick, have achieved. It’s inspired me to see what’s possible in my world. It’s very cool to work with friends and meet so many new people who are doing great things and want to create exciting new projects with us.” Beckham told MIPTV.
