He learned that Belle had given Marlena’s papers asking to be taken off life support to Kayla, and the board was getting ready to order it to be done. Now, John will be in the fight for his life if he hopes to save the woman he loves on the Thursday, Sept. 13 episode of “Days of Our Lives.”

Marlena (Deidre Hall) was put on a ventilator after the surgery to remove the bullet from her chest due to septic shock. Not long after on the NBC soap though, Belle (Martha Madison) uncovered Marlena’s papers she had signed, which requested that she not be kept alive by artificial means—including a ventilator. She was also the healthcare proxy for Marlena, which meant the decision was up to her whether or not she brought the paperwork to anyone’s attention.

Though she knows that Marlena being taken off of the ventilator means she will die since she can’t breathe on her own, Belle still knew she had to honor her mother’s wishes, and brought the papers to Kayla (Mary Beth Evans), who has taken them to the hospital board. Now, John (Drake Hogestyn) has vowed to fight against his daughter and the directive, and he took out his phone to make a call in an effort to stop it.

Now, he is in the fight of his life, as he tries to save Marlena’s. John refuses to let anyone cut the support Marlena is receiving because he refuses to let her go. He will likely seek Justin (Wally Kurth) out for assistance since he will need an attorney to try and block this from happening, and while it may not mean success on his part, it will at least delay the process for a while, potentially giving Marlena a chance to fight back on her own.

Now, the battle will be on, as everyone hopes to find a way to save Marlena—but also make sure they’re obeying what may be her final wishes.

“Days of Our Lives” airs weekdays on NBC.
