President Tom Kirkman’s (Kiefer Sutherland) cluelessness to a conspiracy brewing in The White House initially provided fodder for suspense-filled story arcs in ABC series “Designated Survivor.” Now, however, with so many people being a part of Catalan’s grand plan, it’s high time the former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development got a whiff of what is actually happening behind the doors of his pristine Oval Office.

Kirkman better learn of the conspiracy quickly because episode 8 revealed that his life is in danger. The mysterious Catalan plans to assassinate him after poisoning Al-Sakar terrorist Majid Massar (Nicholas Massouh) and forcing FBI Deputy Director Jason Atwood (Malik Yoba) to confess killing him. What will happen in episode 9?

Well, Tom finally realizes that there is a traitor hiding in The White House. Will he finally discover that Congressman Peter MacLeish (Ashley Zukerman) is part of a conspiracy?

The official synopsis of the upcoming “Designated Survivor” episode, titled “The Blueprint,” reveals that classified government documents will be leaked online. Taking a page from real-life former CIA employee Edward Snowden’s story, the promo shows a whistleblower in Washington walking out of the NSA with sensitive information. The information that this whistleblower leaks will not only take several politicians down but it will also drop a bombshell of a secret.

Unfortunately, Kirkman will learn that the party responsible for leaking this information has taken refuge in a foreign embassy. Even he, the most powerful man in the country, cannot touch him.

Elsewhere, Atwood dons an orange jumpsuit and gets interrogated by the FBI.

Furthermore, FBI Agent Hannah Wells (Maggie Q) better get in a room with Kirkman fast because MacLeish is close to being confirmed as the country’s next Vice President. She is the only one who knows what is really happening.

“Designated Survivor” Season 1, episode 9 premieres Wednesday, Dec. 7 at 10 p.m. EST on ABC.
