KEY POINTS

  • Enhancement Cores can be farmed relatively quickly in Nightfalls and Lost Sectors
  • Use Finest Matterweave to gain extra cores for defeating powerful combatants
  • Equip the appropriate Ghost mod to earn more cores

Enhancement Cores serve as the backbone of “Destiny 2’s” item upgrade system. Players will need tons of these if they want to get their gear fully upgraded and even more if they want to purchase Ascendant Shards from vendors.

Everyone will be able to get a few dozen Enhancement Cores through normal gameplay, but this can be a slow and tedious process. Here are some of the best and most time-efficient ways to farm cores for players who can’t wait to Masterwork their gear.

How To Farm Enhancement Cores

As mentioned, cores drop as rewards from nearly every activity in the game. Difficult Nightfall strikes tend to give plenty of Enhancement Cores at the end of each run, but depending on the weekly rotation, these missions can be either too hard or too frustrating to farm.

One way to make this less tedious is to just farm Hero difficulty Nightfalls with a Lesser Core Harvest (Vanguard) mod equipped on the Ghost shell found in the character screen. This mod will make Enhancement Cores drop more frequently from strike bosses.

On a side note, this Lesser Core Harvest mod also has variants for Crucible and Gambit. Good PvP players should be able to snag at least one core per match should they be able to hit their headshots consistently, but this method is less reliable than simply farming Nightfalls.

Legend And Master Lost Sectors

Completing either of these activities can give players both Enhancement Cores and some unique exotic armor pieces like the Cuirass of the Fallen Star or Mask of Bakris if completed solo. This may prove to be a faster and more rewarding method since Lost Sectors are typically completed very quickly.

Gunsmith Bounties

Each Gunsmith Bounty will reward an Enhancement Core, which means players can earn up to four per day for free. Turning in Gunsmith Materials may also yield a core, and dismantling the weapon that Banshee gives players may give an extra core as well.

Weekly Clan Engrams

Players in a Level 4 clan can get seven Enhancement Cores from Hawthorne after completing the weekly clan milestone. Don’t forget to visit her before the weekly reset to claim the free cores.
