Desperate times call for desperate measures in “Doctor Who” Season 9. A new trailer for BBC America’s sci-fi hit shows that the Doctor (Peter Capaldi) is missing. It’s up to Clara (Jenna Coleman) to find him, but she won’t be the only one searching.

The promo video also shows Clara teaming up with Missy (Michelle Gomez), who will return despite seemingly being defeated in the Season 8 finale. It looks like she might try to help Clara track down the famous Time Lord. Missy somehow got her hands on the Twelfth Doctor’s will. “It’s a compression dial,” she tells Clara as she shows a circle with Gallifreyan inscriptions on it. “The last will and testament of the Doctor.”

As previously reported, Missy and Clara will have to get along to track down the missing Time Lord. “This is the opening two-parter. It features lots of Daleks, and this time we mean it!” Moffat told SFX Magazine (via Doctor Who TV) about the premiere. “Clara receives a mysterious summons and has to team up with Missy to search for the Doctor in a very, very old place.”

It looks like the Doctor will find himself in plenty of trouble while he’s away. He appears to be in some sort of fighting ring, but he doesn't seem to have any weapons. Unfortunately, his opponent has an axe. We’re guessing his injuries won’t be fatal. After all, he can always grow back a hand or other extremities.

This trailer doesn’t show the Doctor fighting any other nefarious villains, but it gives a glimpse of them. The opening shows new creatures who have hands with eyeballs popping out of the ground. The closing, however, brings back one familiar alien: Daleks. The Doctor’s longtime foes are back and they’re ready to exterminate.

The one thing this trailer is missing in Maisie Williams. The “Game of Thrones” actress’ appearance is highly anticipated, but details are top secret. However, viewers got a glimpse of her in an extended trailer that was released last month.

“Doctor Who” Season 9 premieres Saturday, Sept. 19 at 9 p.m. EDT on BBC America.
