Burn at your own risk. Over 142,000 candles sold by Dollar Tree are being recalled after the company received two reports of the flame exceeding the height of the glass votive.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) said the faulty product can produce "high flames," which has been known to cause its glass case to break, posing fire and burn hazards.

“Consumers should immediately stop using the Sure Scents 2-1 Peaceful Stream/Moonlit Waves candles and contact Dollar Tree for a full refund...The firm has received two reports that flame height reached above the glass, causing the glass to break,” the CPSC report reads.

No injuries have been reported to date. The candles were sold at Dollar Tree from July through September 2020 and were priced at one dollar each.

Customers affected by the recall are able to obtain a refund for the faulty product. Dollar Tree’s website states that customers can return the item to any one of its stores. Original packaging and a receipt are not needed to return the candle.

The CPSC advised consumers that have any questions to contact Dollar Tree by phone at 800-876-8697 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST Monday through Friday or online at www.dollartree.com.

Candle recalls are not unfamiliar to the retail market. Last holiday season, Hallmark had to pull roughly 4,500 Frosted Balsam jar candles from its stores as the glass also posed a safety hazard. Three years prior, Yankee Candle issued a recall for over 30,000 of its products based on similar safety concerns.
