Blink and you'll miss it. President Donald Trump had a brief cameo lasting about five seconds in the beloved 1992 Christmas movie, "Home Alone 2: Lost in New York," starring Macaulay Culkin. The movie was a sequel to the surprise 1990 blockbuster, "Home Alone," nominated for two Oscars and a Golden Globe.

The original movie, which was made for only $18 million, grossed $477 million at the box office. "Home Alone 2," where a youngish Trump (then only 46 years-old) had a fleeting role, took in a more modest $359 million after the "Kevin effect" had worn-off. In the sequel, Trump is kind enough to point Kevin McCallister (played by Culkin) to the lobby of the Plaza Hotel after the boy asks him for directions. After this good deed, Trump turns his back to the camera and exits the scene.

"Excuse me," Culkin asks Trump. "Where's the lobby?"

Trump replies: "Down the hall and to the left." He looks briefly at Culkin and turns to leave.

Trump has often bragged about his cameo in this Christmas comedy-adventure flick, and he said so to the overseas troops on Christmas Eve during a video conference call from the White House. He told U.S. soldiers he was honored to be in "Home Alone 2," a movie he described as "one of the biggest" Christmas hits.

During the conference call with service members, a sergeant asked him about his favorite movie, "Home Alone 2."

"Well, I'm in 'Home Alone 2,'" replied Trump.

"A lot of people mention it every year, especially around Christmas. They say ... especially young kids ... they say, 'I just saw you on the movie.' They don't see me on television as they do in the movie. But it's been a good movie, and I was a little bit younger, to put it mildly. And it was an honor to do it."

"And it turned out to be a very big hit, obviously. It's a big Christmas hit -- one of the biggest. So it's an honor to be involved in something like that, you always like to see success."

That was "Home Alone 2," the movie. Trump is nowhere to be found on the "Home Alone 2" version aired by Canadian TV broadcaster, CBC TV. The station aired a TV version of the movie after Trump's speech with the troops.

"Missing in action" Trump ignited furor on the internet. And one of the most insulted by this perfidious plot was presidential son Donald Trump Jr. who tweeted on Thursday morning an article with the caption: "‘Pathetic’: Canada’s CBC under fire when Trump’s cameo in ‘Home Alone 2’ disappears from Christmas broadcast.

Four hours later, one of Trump's former aides tweeted: "If anyone is looking for the Home Alone 2 cameo from @realDonaldTrump that was edited out by @CBC, here it is in all its glory." Trump Jr. retweeted the same the video.

CBC has a logical explanation for Trump's disappearance.

"As is often the case with feature films adapted for television, 'Home Alone 2' was edited for time. The scene with Donald Trump was one of several that were cut from the movie as none of them were integral to the plot. These edits were done in 2014 when we first acquired the film and before Mr. Trump was elected President."
