Kevin Durant can leave behind a legacy much greater than LeBron James if he stays with the Golden State Warriors should they win a third straight NBA Championship in 2019, according to Fox Sports’ Chris Broussard.

The small forward opted out of his contract with the Warriors and became a free agent in July this year, but as promised, he re-signed with the reigning NBA champions.

Durant was eligible for a max four-year contract, but instead chose to sign a two-year deal with a player option at the end of the upcoming campaign. He revealed recently that it was the perfect deal to sign as it gave him the power to have control over his future.

It is almost certain that he will enter free agency again in 2019 and assess his options, but he has been advised by the NBA insider to consider staying with the Warriors, who are favorite to win the title yet again.

Broussard is of the opinion that Durant can leave behind a legacy better than LeBron if he goes on to win four or five titles with the Warriors. He also revealed that many people already consider the former to be better than the Los Angeles Lakers’ latest recruit.

“If Kevin Durant likely wins his third championship this year — whether he’s Finals MVP or not, he may be again, he may not be, that doesn’t really matter — I think the best option is look to stay in Golden State,” Broussard said, as quoted by the Express.

“You could win four or five rings, who knows how many you could win. You could win more than LeBron James and claim to be the greatest winner of this era.

“Some people already think he may be better than LeBron James so legacy-wise, it’s great to stay in Golden State,” he added.

However, if Durant were to leave the Warriors in 2019, he will certainly not be short of suitors with reports indicating that the New York Knicks are planning to make a move next summer. He has also been linked with a move to the Lakers to join LeBron at the Staples Center.

Broussard believes the Knicks are a good choice if Durant decides to depart the Bay Area team. While he admits a move to the Lakers will not be a bad one, he believes it will be in the two-time NBA Finals MVP’s interest to go to another franchise and continue beating LeBron and the Lakers.

“If you want to leave, I would look at New York. They’re going to have money for maybe two max guys,” Broussard said. “What if Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving go to New York to join Kristaps Porzingis? Maybe Kevin Knox becomes a player, [then] that’s something special.”

“It’s always good to be in the East. This is my thinking. I have no reason to think he wants to go home. But Washington wouldn’t be a bad place, you’d have John Wall, Bradley Beal, [coach] Scott Brooks."

“The Lakers, I think there’s reason for him to stay and keep beating LeBron rather than to join him but certainly if he went to the Lakers, that’s not a bad move,” he added.
