Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of the holy fasting month of Ramadan, will be celebrated on Thursday or Friday depending on the moon sighting.

Muslims around the world will celebrate the day with prayers, by sharing gifts with family and friends and doing charity work. Not all countries will celebrate Eid on Thursday. Countries like Bangladesh, India and Pakistan will celebrate it on Friday.

Eid al-Fitr means "festival of breaking the fast." The most common greetings during Eid include "Eid Mubarak", which means "Blessed Eid," and "Eid Said," meaning "Happy Eid."
