KEY POINTS

  • Margit is best fought after exploring most of Limgrave's other optional areas
  • There are a number of powerful items and talismans that can be used in the boss fight
  • Summon NPCs or other players when the going gets tough

Among the many bosses in “Elden Ring,” Margit serves as the first true wall that players need to break through in order to progress through the game.

The combination of fast moves, long delays and thick health bar often spells certain death for any challenger. While this boss might seem impossible to beat at first, players can defeat him with a bit of preparation and a ton of determination.

Here’s a quick guide on how to beat Margit in “Elden Ring.”

Before the Boss Fight

The most important thing about Margit is that players should not try to rush fighting him. Take time to explore all of Limgrave to collect skills, weapons, items and levels to make the boss fight itself easier.

Here are some interesting items players might want to take from Limgrave:

  • Bloodhound’s Fang – Forlorn Hound Evergaol (South Limgrave)
  • Uchigatana – Death-touched Catacombs (Stormhill)
  • Crimson Amber Medallion – Merchant (Castle Morne Ruins)
  • Viridian Amber Medallion – Merchant (Castle Morne Ruins)
  • Blessed Dew Talisman – Divine Bridge (via Tower of Return)

There are many more trinkets to be discovered in Limgrave. It’s best to collect at least a few of them before challenging Margit.

Also, don’t forget to take the Jellyfish spirit from Roderika. She can be found by the ruined shack at the very first Site of Grace at Stormhill.

Lastly, try to upgrade a weapon to +3 by using Smithing Stones found across the world. This isn’t mandatory, but it will make subsequent fights much easier.

Fighting Margit

Speed and aggression are important in this fight. Margit has very few openings, but these small windows can easily be exploited with a jumping attack. Most of his low sweep attacks can also be countered in this same way.

A shield with the Barricade ability can be a lifesaver in this fight as Margit tends to chain together attacks frequently. However, keep in mind that attacks he makes with his Holy weapons can bypass shield protection altogether. Keep in mind that some of these attacks can still be parried.

Summon the NPC Rogier via his summon sign in front of Margit’s fog gate, and don’t forget to summon the Jellyfish too. Both of them can take the heat off of players, allowing for longer windows of opportunity.
