  • Elizabeth Olsen weighed in on her “Avengers” co-star Scarlett Johansson’s legal battle against Disney
  • The “WandaVision” star backed Johansson and lauded her for being “tough”
  • Olsen also voiced her concerns over the release of big movies on streaming platforms amid the pandemic

Elizabeth Olsen has spoken up about her “Avengers” co-star Scarlett Johansson’s legal battle with Disney, and she’s all for it.

The 32-year-old Hollywood actress recently did an interview with Vanity Fair, alongside Jason Sudeikis, 45, where they talked about their latest TV shows “WandaVision” and “Ted Lasso,” respectively. But they were also asked to share their thoughts on Johansson’s case against the mass media company.

“I think she’s so tough and literally when I read that I was like, 'good for you Scarlett,’” Olsen said.

“When it comes to actors and their earnings, I mean, that’s just, that’s just all contracts. So it’s either in the contract or it’s not,” she explained to Vanity Fair, before asking Sudeikis if he’s also worried for Johansson.

“Of course. How could I not? She’s married to my comedy brother,” Sudeikis said, referring to his “SNL” co-star Colin Jost.

In the same interview, Olsen shared her concerns about movies being released on streaming services amid the pandemic as it could negatively impact small-budget films.

“I would like to see art films and art house theaters. And so I do worry about that, and people having to keep these theaters alive. And I don’t know how financially that works for these theaters,” she said.

Johansson recently filed a lawsuit against Disney after the release of her “Black Widow” movie under Marvel. In her suit, she alleged that the parent company breached her contract when it released her film on Disney+’s Premium Access tier the same day it hit theaters.

According to her contract, Johansson was expected to earn bonuses if the movie were to reach certain box office figures, the lawsuit said. However, its release on the streaming platform allegedly affected “Black Widow’s” box office potential, as per The Hollywood Reporter.

Last Friday, Disney filed a motion to compel Johansson into a private arbitration over her case despite previously saying that the lawsuit has “no merit whatsoever.”

In response, Johansson’s lawyer John Berlinski told E! News over the weekend that Disney is allegedly “predictably, trying to hide its misconduct in a confidential arbitration” rather than have public litigation.
