Emmanuel Macron has won five more years as France's president after defeating rival far-right leader Marine Le Pen in the 2022 French Election.

He is the first sitting president in 20 years to get re-elected. Who is he, and what is his net worth?

Macron was the eldest of three siblings born to a family of doctors. He studied philosophy at Paris Nanterre University and earned his Master's of Public Affairs at Sciences Po.

He began his public service career in 2004 as a finance inspector for the French Ministry of Economy and Finance.

In September 2008, he joined Rothschild & Cie Banque, the French division of the international Rothschild financial group, as an investment banker.

Macron advanced quickly at the company, and in 2012 he brokered Nestlé’s blockbuster $12 billion acquisition of Pfizer’s baby food division. Macron reportedly earned €2.9 million (about $3.8 million) for his role in the deal.

He became Deputy Secretary General to the President in 2012. From August 2014 to August 2016, he served as the Minister of the Economy, Industry and Digital Affairs.

Macron, who ran as a centrist, pro-business candidate, became president in 2017.

He reportedly earned $5 million working for the prestigious financial institution. But according to his financial filing, he lost his fortune over the years.

In Macron’s filing in March 2017, he maintained that he did not own a car, and his wife owned their house.

The document also revealed his bank accounts held approximately $140,000, and he had declared a book advance from his publisher worth $300,000. According to the filing, he maintained stock holdings worth $65,000.

Macron's filing also indicated he had taken out a large loan to buy and improve his house, which he paid using his banker income.

Today, his net worth stands at $1 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth.

According to Macron, his net worth decreased to $1 million because he had to pay income taxes.

Macron earlier advocated scrapping France's wealth tax, saying taxing wealth is not efficient and it would be preferable to increase inheritance taxes instead.

As President of France, he earns $16,000 per month, roughly $192,000 per year.
