Empire premiere
Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) will have a death to deal with in the “Empire” Season 3 premiere. Fox

You’re going to need a lot of popcorn Wednesday. The night is packed with season and series premieres, and it looks like there will be plenty to watch.

There are two new shows making their debut. Kiefer Sutherland returns to TV in “Designated Surivor” on ABC. He plays a low level cabinet member who becomes president after an attack during the State of the Union address leaves everyone above him dead. He’ll have to adjust to leading the country quickly.

Those looking for something a little lighter can check out “Lethal Weapon” on Fox. Clayne Crawford and Damon Wayons will play Riggs and Murtaugh, respectively, in this reboot of the famous movie franchise. No knowledge of the original is required for this buddy cop show.

More laughs can be found on ABC, which launches its Wednesday comedy block. “The Goldbergs” returns to pay homage to “The Breakfast Club,” and “Black-ish” goes to Disney World. Meanwhile, “Modern Family” Season 8 shows the Pritchetts reuniting for Father’s Day after spending some time apart.

Elsewhere, NBC will be bringing back some beloved legal dramas. In the “Law & Order: SVU” premiere, an abandoned child leads to clues about a major attack on New York. On “Chicago P.D.,” Lindsay (Sophia Bush) will be questioned about Justin’s (Josh Segarra) death, but will she reveal that she saw Voight (Jason Beghe) at the crime scene?

Fox’s “Empire” will also be dealing with a death, but whose? Producers have promised that someone actually went off the roof in last season’s cliffhanger, and the Season 3 premiere will reveal the victim’s identity.

“Survivor” Season 33 is unlikely to have any death, but there will be some serious competition. The “Millennials vs. Gen X” season will take place in Fiji. The contestants will not jump right into competitions, though. A cyclone will force the cast to evacuate on Day 2.
