KEY POINTS

  • XP can be boosted by sleeping or using items
  • Occasionally, the game hosts Double XP Weekends
  • Events with high enemy densities are great for farming XP

Leveling up in “Fallout 76” will take some time no matter what process players decide to go through. However, there are still some optimized routes, methods and practices that can help Vault Dwellers reach the level cap faster.

Like in other “Fallout” games, players earn XP by completing quests, defeating enemies or simply discovering new things. Although, thanks to some of the new systems introduced in “Fallout 76,” the leveling process can be sped up quite a bit. Here are a few things players need to try out to level up faster in the Appalachian Wasteland.

Go to sleep

“Fallout 76” doesn’t allow time skips, but that doesn’t mean beds and sleeping are completely useless. Lying down for a short while will eventually give players the Well-Rested buff, which increases the amount of XP gained from all sources.

Granted, this XP boost is tiny. However, it does stack with other effects like Double XP Weekends and the next tip.

Use Vault-Tec Lunchboxes

Using a lunchbox grants a 25% boost to XP gains. This effect can stack up to four times, up to a total of 100%. However, lunchboxes can only be obtained via the Scoreboard.

Players will have to complete their daily and weekly challenges to make Scoreboard progress. This method is unreliable, at best, but the double XP effect is too good not to mention.

Defend Workshops

Every now and then, player-owned workshops will be attacked by mobs of NPC enemies. Completing the event grants a nice chunk of XP along with the normal XP gained from defeating enemies.

Players themselves don’t need to own workshops. Simply join a defense event on the world map once they become available.

Quests and public events

New players are highly encouraged to finish the Overseer and Wastelanders questlines first. However, some quests are level-gated, which will force players to grind elsewhere before continuing. This is where public events come in.

Keep in mind that players can gain XP from public events even without participating in them for their entire duration, so long as the event itself does not fail. However, since tons of enemies usually spawn in public events, it’s best to stay and slay to get as much XP as possible.

Players can teleport to public events from anywhere on the map for a small fee.
