  • Johnson said he does not 'trust the FBI to get to the bottom' of investigations into Hunter Biden
  • He said he has 'no faith' in FBI Director Christopher Wray and the DOJ
  • Another GOP senator accused the FBI of dismissing evidence against Hunter as 'disinformation'

A Republican lawmaker said the FBI "cannot be trusted" to investigate Hunter Biden’s overseas business dealings and claimed that investigators are maintaining a "bias" toward President Joe Biden’s son.

Speaking on “Fox & Friends Weekend” on Sunday, Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., said he has “no faith” in FBI Director Christopher Wray and the Department of Justice (DOJ) after they have “done nothing” with the “evidence” found in a laptop that Hunter allegedly abandoned at a Delaware computer repair shop.

“I have no faith in [FBI Director] Christopher Wray of conducting this investigation, but it’s important that the American public understand the FBI had Hunter Biden’s laptop in December of 2019,” Johnson said. “They certainly saw the evidence of what I think is criminal activity on that laptop. They’ve done nothing. Here we are in the end of July, early August 2022. What have they done with it? No, you can’t trust this Department of Justice, the FBI, to get to the bottom of this.”

The senator later said “thank God” for the whistleblowers who are speaking out about how officials are handling the investigations into Hunter’s business dealings, the report said.

"First of all, thank God for those whistleblowers. We need a whole lot more of them in the FBI, the Department of Justice, and in our federal health agencies. They need to come forward and start talking to us. I'm not shocked, but it's outrageous that the FBI would be tipping the scales of justice the way they're doing," Johnson said.

Johnson’s interview comes a week after Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, accused the FBI and DOJ of burying “verified and verifiable” evidence on Hunter by dismissing them as “disinformation.” Grassley said the allegations prove that the officers are “corrupted to their very core,” according to an official Senate letter.

“It’s been alleged that the FBI HQ team suggested to the FBI agents that the information was at risk of disinformation; however, according to allegations, all of the reporting was either verified or verifiable via criminal search warrants,” the letter read. “If these allegations are true and accurate, the Justice Department and FBI are – and have been – institutionally corrupted to their very core.”

Officials have reportedly been weighing levying possible tax violation and foreign lobbying violation charges against Hunter. In addition, officials are also looking into possibly charging Hunter for making a false statement about purchasing a firearm, a source with knowledge of the discussion told CNN. The source added that officials have yet to make a final decision about any possible charges.
